Caminho Português 2024: Day 5

Quiet day in Ponte de Lima

Very nice green, hilly country.

A shrine to São Tiago along the way
The Ponte (bridge) over the river Lima. Of Roman and medieval origins.
Rich is hanging out with the Romans, who were reportedly scared to cross the river because they thought it was the Lethe, river of forgetting.
Looking upstream from the bridge. There was a sports club of kayakers running practices. The city has apparently flooded badly many times. Seems like a precarious spot to live even though it is beautiful.

We didn’t do too much once we got to town. We wandered in circles quite a few times looking for reasonable food and to see what there was to see, which really wasn’t much. We were in more of a pension (rented rooms) which was on a nice street in the town. We shared the place with a father and son from the Netherlands.
