Caminho Português 2024: Day 4

To Fernanda’s house

The destination this day was the Casa da Fernanda, where every pilgrim covets the chance to experience Fernanda’s famous hospitality. I reserved our spots in February and arranged all the distances around this opportunity.
We had a rainy morning, but a short 14 kms or so.

Prepared to leave our hotel in Barcelos.
I love the morning views here in northern Portugal.
The weather turned wet. We walked an hour or so near these 2 Korean pilgrims. Up through hillside towns and back down to vineyards and farms.
Peaked inside a church and saw these saints ready for a procession. Maybe they were used last week for Pentecost?
We arrived at Fernanda’s house, surrounded by vineyards, gardens and chickens. The little design above does not do justice to the lushness of the property.
White wine and homemade fritters in the yard once most of the pilgrims had arrived.
Fernanda’s adorable 4 month puppy, quite adept at begging as well as biting sandal-clad pilgrim toes.
Fabulous pilgrim dinner. Lots of new caminho friendships being made. And of course another sing-a-long … with Fernanda’s favorite “Country Roads”.

Dinner was fabulous, multiple courses, more wine, port, some of the strongest grappa I’ve ever tried. There were more than a few tipsy pilgrims.

Dawn at Casa da Fernanda. We were up seeking coffee, of course!
Snapped a true view of the house.
We say goodbye to our hostess.
